Some of my best yard sale finds have been for the Garden... a little whacky at times but completely functional! No one says you have to put an antique window icebox in the window!
This past Saturday, my friend Harlee and I went yard saling or is that sailing? Saling looks funny, is it just me? Anyway, I spent $33.00 and got some great STUFF! I started taking pictures and decided to post items that I have gotten over the years... I love an eclectic mix of junk salvaged conversation pieces in my garden. Even if most of those conversations take place with myself and Cooper. Its my little therapeutic world back there... "don't be jealous if the voices talk only to me."
Ok... so, I have been coveting my neighbor's little red wagon all spring! He puts his potting soil in it and wheels it around transplanting and you know ... gardening! Well who cares what he does with it... I wanted one... had to have something a little different... his has the removable wooden slatted things that go around the sides.... I couldnt' completely copy him.... so what do you think? Cute huh? A little rusty ... but it has real character and probably a few stories to tell.
This is a great handtruck... in great shape and guess what I didn't have to pay extra for the rust! It will come in "handy" when I have to move heavy pots from my potting bench to other ends of the yard. I love it!
This shopping cart was in "new" condition. I "needed" this for carrying things from my garage to the house. You know groceries and stuff! Are you noticing a "hauling trend" I hurt my back gardening last weekend without these finds... so perhaps that was the method to my unconscious madness.
This was a yard sale find a few years ago... I think butterfly chairs originated in the 50's. Its really comfy. Cooper likes curling up in it too.
This is the antique windowsill icebox i was telling you about... I have two of them and they are so valuable in keeping my tools, fertilizer, liquor and essentials.
Yay.... paydirt... you know, that is what we in the business call a freebie! The basket (on top of the other windowsill icebox) will be great for gathering tools or carting them around in my red wagon. Seriously, all I asked was how much?
The watering can was also a yard sale purchase years ago.... it has a rusty bottom and doesn't hold water anymore... notice the fence... yep... yard sale... about 2 years ago. Can you believe it fits perfectly on both sides of the brick walkway to my potting area? Kismet, I tell you!
Found this little kerosene stove a few years back. I had a brilliant hairbrained idea to actually use it on my patio... but after almost starting fire to the whole backyard, I decided to give it a proper resting place among my favorite things. Its the color... I am absolutely a sucker for aqua and rusty surfaces :)
This was my last find on Saturday! Toile and various red fabrics! I have been planning (like forever) to paint all my front porch wicker furniture black and cover the cushions and pillows with black and white toile and red accent pillows. Is this freaky or what? Now God...I know you were pretty good to me, but could you please give me some sunny weather so that I can get the painting done?
